In the 1930s, Miller was commissioned to illustrate two private publications for the Container Corporation of America (CCA), both of which sit here on an antique Stickley buffet.

This book, entitled Paper, Wasps, and Packages: The Romantic Story of Paper and Its Influence on the Course of History (1938), explains the storied background of the evolution of paper as a product in human society. Its chapters span from ancient times all the way to the modern era. Of course, for the CCA, paper was incredibly important. This book was privately published and given as gifts to the company's employees and clients.

Miller's illustrations are fantastic examples of his work in the medium. Both highly detailed and rich in realistic figuration, the printing style is also cutting edge and modern, with a keen eye for what would later become known as graphic design. The topic offered Miller an opportunity to illustrate a variety of wonderful subjects.
