Alfonso Iannelli (1888-1965), who with his wife Margaret (1893-1967), founded Iannelli Studios, which became an pioneering firm specializing in artistic installation and graphic design. They were some of the most important mentors to Edgar Miller in his earliest days as an artist-designer in Chicago.
Miller's personalized block print letterhead is stamped at the top, advertising “sculptures” and “decorations”. In this letter, Miller wrote a brief note to his former employer, and admired fellow artist, that he knew of friends who might be able to help his mentor secure a cheaper boat fare for an upcoming trip to Europe:
"Dear Alfonso–
Mr. Kelley is in town and sends this address of a man in N.Y who would be able to save you about half on your European passage expenses– Mr. K will probably be in NY at the time if you look in to see him for a moment he will be glad to introduce you – and Mr Gallo would be happy to be of any use to you in arranging ocean passage – I will be out absolutely as soon as I can.
Edgar
PS. Gallo is implicated in an Italian-American art association - or something of the kind - and is very patriotic - Italian-American - also very interested in " " [Italian-American] artists – If this is of use, there is no reason that should prevent your benefiting by it. --E"
