Tiled embrasure and window
Edgar Miller
1932
This window portal seems to be designed after an embrasure or portal one might find in a Medieval castle. At the same time, the window fits in quite nicely with the early Modernist undertones throughout the entire home. Here, Miller continues to liberally apply mosaic tile, but instead of creating symbols, patterns or animal figures, he simply creates a scattershot mix of soft neutral tones, separated only by evenly spaced lines of darker tile. This window lets in the only sunlight for the space, and the curvature of the embrasure allows to draw in even more light, while the opalescent glass maintains privacy. A radiator sits underneath the sill, explaining the wide gap between the window and the interior wall of the bathroom.
