Edgar Miller Legacy (EML) and DePaul Art Museum (DPAM) are partnering to host the 10th Anniversary Gala for Edgar Miller Legacy. Join us as we celebrate ten years of stewardship of the legacy, story, and work of the great 20th century artist Edgar Miller.

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit EML and help us continue to preserve and educate the public about the art and design of Edgar Miller. Your critical support allows EML to continue its programs and educational opportunities, and to provide scholars, artists, and members of the public access to EML’s archive and ongoing research. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit DPAM, host of the gala and the exhibition on Edgar Miller.

This year's gala event will take place at DePaul Art Museum, located at 935 West Fullerton in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. The event will offer attendees a “first look” preview of the exhibition Edgar Miller: Anti-Modern, 1917-1967, as well as the companion exhibition featuring contemporary artists, The Spaces We Call Home.

Registered attendees will be the first to have the opportunity to view nearly 100 pieces of original artwork and design across both exhibitions and enjoy a festive evening of food and drinks, which will include heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Join us as we come together as a community, ten years strong, to continue our work of sharing and loving all things Edgar Miller. Consider registering as an individual or corporate sponsor.  All sponsors will be thanked with special gifts listed above and will be acknowledged in all event-related publications. Edgar Miller: Anti-Modern, 1917-1967 Exhibition

As part of Art Design Chicago 2024 and with major support from the Terra Foundation for American Art, DePaul Art Museum (DPAM) will be hosting an upcoming exhibition entitled Edgar Miller: Anti-Modern, 1917–1967.

Guest curated by Dr. Marin R. Sullivan, the exhibition will be the most extensive solo presentation of Miller’s work to date. Edgar Miller (1899–1993) arrived in Chicago in 1917, and over the next fifty years, established a successful career as a multi-hyphenate creative practitioner, whose work spanned multiple mediums, materials, and disciplines.

The exhibition will feature over 85 fragments, artworks, graphics, and pieces of ephemera reflecting all facets of Miller’s career, including representative examples of his drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, illustration and graphic design, textiles, ceramics, jewelry, woodcarving, stained glass, interior design, and architectural projects. Miller’s tremendous body of work, speaks to an individual unconcerned with trends, labels, or what would become the established tenets of modern art. He instead remained committed to figurative storytelling and representing the natural world, creating work that was intended to be experienced across the built environment. Also to be featured in the exhibition will be pieces created by some of the artist's colleagues and influential contemporaries, including Hester Miller Murray, Andrew Rebori, and Jesús Torres, who Miller collaborated with extensively.

In conjunction with the Edgar Miller: Anti-Modern showcase, DPAM will be exhibiting alongside Miller's work pieces from six contemporary artists with strong ties to Chicago—Azadeh Gholizadeh, Kazuki Guzmán, Ania Jaworska (in collaboration with Zack Ostrowski), Roland Knowlden, Sharon and Guy, and Claudia Weber—whose work straddles, draws from, and complicates divisions between the fields of architecture, design, and fine art. Also curated by Dr. Marin Sullivan, this show is entitled The Spaces We Call Home and will be available to view throughout the exhibition dates.

These exhibitions will run from from September 12th, 2024 to February 23rd, 2025 at DPAM with associated programming as part of Terra Foundation's Art Design Chicago 2024 initiative.
